CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 2008--Power-One, Inc. (Nasdaq: PWER), a leading provider of power conversion and power management solutions, announced that their 60-amp, high-efficiency (over 92%) Z-One® ZY8160 Digital Point of Load Converter has won EDN Magazine's Innovation of the Year Award for their power supply category. EDN's selection process was based on inputs from their judges, and voting by their readership. Winners were announced on April 14th, at EDN's awards ceremony in San Jose, CA.
The ZY8160 is the industry's first digital POL converter specifically designed to meet the needs of high-current server and communications applications. When compared to analog products, ZY8160-based solutions can reduce power system development time, space, and components up to 90%; including eliminating external devices for sequencing, tracking, protections, monitoring, and reporting.
All parameters of the ZY8160 are programmable via the industry-standard I2C communication bus. The Graphical User Interface (GUI) facilitates ongoing monitoring of performance parameters and the ability for "on the fly" operating-parameter changes, without hardware changes, at any time during system development or service.
Programmable parameters include, but are not limited to: output voltages, sequencing, tracking, feedback loop compensation, and protection limits. These user-defined settings are stored in a Digital Power Manager and are used to initialize the ZY8160 during system startup. Unlike many other power management solutions, a ZY8160-based solution can operate autonomously in any system and does not require users to provide an I2C interface, host processor, or non-volatile memory.
Power-One designs and manufactures energy-efficient power conversion and power management solutions for alternative/renewable energy, routers, data storage and servers, wireless communications, optical networking, medical diagnostics, military, railway controls, automated/semiconductor test equipment, and custom applications. Power-One, with headquarters in Camarillo, CA, has global sales offices, manufacturing, and R&D operations in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
